Federico Zuccaro or (Zuccari) (1542 or 1543 with Sant' Angelo in Vado - 1609 with Ancona) is a painter and Italian architect considered as one of the Masters of the Roman Maniérisme of the beginning of the Cinquecento.
Biography
It continued with the Trinité of the Mount, church of Tiny of Rome, which concerns the France, because it was founded by Charles VIII, of the frescos started with his/her brother Taddeo. Its first rather fast successes made it call with Florence, where one charged it with painting the large cupola of the metropolitan church.Frederic had the audacity to place there high figures of fifty feet, without speaking about that of Lucifer, if disproportionate, that it makes appear different figures of children. He wrote itself this last characteristic, by adding that these figures were most colossal that one had still made in the world. (see: Lettere pittoriche , T. 6, p. 147.)
Lanzi thinks that except for the vastness of the composition, one hardly has prone to rent this work. Even time of Pierre de Cortone, one thought of making substitute other paintings of this last artist; and one was stopped only by the fear which he did not live long enough to finish this company. After this work, Frederic claimed to paint all the cupolas; and it seemed that work of great dimension was due for him in all the Italy.
One called it in Rome, to entrust to him the vault of the Chapelle Pauline, and to make him thus complete a work started with Michel-Angel. In 1560, Federigo Zuccaro is in charge the mission of the decoration of the casino of Pie IV in the City of the the Vatican and accomplishes a stay with Venice (1561-1564).
Shown near the pope Gregoire XIII of some ill-considered remarks, it exposed as a public his famous painting of Calumny , where it had represented his indicters with long ears of ass. Those carried felt sorry for to the pope, who forced Frederic to leave Rome. Then it began voyages in Flanders, in Holland, England, with Venice.
The pope being alleviated, Zucchero went to take again his stopped work, and accepted great praises and rewards. He built a house on the Mont Pincio, where frescos of his hand are still seen. Unfortunately it was made known then, known as Lanzi, for chief of school of decline: caposcuola di decadenza . On these entrefaites, Philippe II invited it to go to Madrid; but its work was not tasted: its paintings were erased and replaced by perforated Tebaldi.
To decrease the sorrow which this unexpected failure was to cause him, the king returned it to Italy with a strong pension. Towards 1595, it was named Principe Accademia di San Luca, lately formed, and this election was for him a kind of triumph. Frederic made in Spain another voyage, but in a more advanced age, and with less success still than the first time. He passed to Venice, in 1603, and improved some of his works.
In Turin, it published a treaty entitled Idea of pittori, scultori E architecti , 1607, in-fol. (reprinted in Rome in 1768), and dedicated it to the duke of Savoy. In 1609, it turned over in its fatherland, when it fell sick to Ancône, and there died, at the 66 years age.
One must in Frederic of nice ideas in architecture, and even of the pieces of sculpture. Its fortune was immense; , and it perhaps less owed it with its talents that with pleasant forms, with a maintenance filled of grace and courtesy, with its cultivated spirit and an attracting generosity, but which was not also long in almost making him feel the attacks of misery. It seemed to write by irritation against Vasari, and to exceed it. One reproaches him a dogmatic tone, little clearly, and a style whose assignment could not escape the ridiculous one. The school of the Zuccheri flowers some time. It counts distinguished pupils, among whom one quotes the Father Danti, Dominican, and Roncalli, which was charged to continue a contiguous arm with the cabin painted by Raphaël: but art was not any more the same one; and one saw soon the traces of decline.
