Federico Medem (born Friedrich Johann count von Medem ) is a zoologist Colombia N of Latvian origin , born the August 29th 1912 with Rīga and dead on May 1st 1984 with Bogotá.

Of German and noble origin, he regards himself as a Latvian. He leaves his country after the Russian revolution and studies with Berlin at the Humboldt university then with that of Tübingen. Its doctorate occurs partly to the zoological Station from Naples where works under the orders of Gustav Kramer (1910-1959). It makes its military service on the Russian face and works post-war period in Germany and Suisse.

He emigrates in Colombia in 1950 and works at the research station of Villavicencio. He works mainly on the tortoise S and the Crocodile S and publishes in 1981 and 1983 two volumes of sound Los Crocodylia of On America . It is a militant credit of the protection of S.
