Federation of the lefts
The Fédération of the lefts is an old French political training.
Will to gather the center
The Federation of the lefts is created the January 13rd 1914 by, in particular, Aristide Briand, Alexandre Millerand and Louis Barthou under the impulse of Raymond Poincaré in order to widen the center pole made up around the democratic Republican party from the point of view of the legislative elections of 1914, in order to effectively counter the left parties, directed by the radical socialist Joseph Caillaux while attracting towards the center and it center-left most moderated of their voters.
A political meteor
This attempt shows a defeat: the left gains the elections and the center moves back. The Federation of the lefts does not survive this failure; it however could set up a parliamentary group called, significantly, radical republican Union and radical-Socialist . This group, although been sulky by Aristide Briand, however president of the Federation of the lefts, will have a certain influence during mandature.
An important parliamentary fish pond
The group of the URRRS, chaired by the deputy of Corsica Adolphe Landry, gathers men come from varied horizons: radical of the right wing of the party, republican-Socialist, advanced elements of the democratic Alliance, one finds there in particular Louis Barthou (a time), Alexandre Millerand, Gratien Candace, Blaise Diagne and two young elected officials destined for high positions, Pierre-Etienne Flandin and André Tardieu.
In 1919, the group of the URRRS is not renewed. Some of its members join the various groups of liberal mobility; others set up the group of the Radical left.
