Federation of associations coeds of the campus of the University of Montreal

The purpose of the Fédération of associations coeds of the campus of the Université of Montreal (FAÉCUM) is, through its association S coeds members, to defend the various interests of the student S and coeds of the University of Montreal. It represents more: 33000 students and coeds by the means of its 81 associations membres.

Elle work in several spheres of activity. First of all at the academic level, the FAÉCUM promouvoit near the administration of the University of Montreal of the claims in order to support an accessible teaching and of quality. Moreover, it supports the students in their steps vis-a-vis the university speakers. On the plan sociopolitic, the Federation is concerned with any social question which touches the life of the university students (financing of education, government policies, etc). On the standard of living coed, the FAÉCUM organizes a great number of activities in order to improve the studies of the population coed. Finally, it offers also several services to its members.

The FAÉCUM, founded in 1976, is member of the university Fédération coed of Quebec (FEUQ).

History

August 1st The FAÉCUM was founded on October 31st, 1976, seven years after the death of the General association of the students of the University of Montreal (AGÉUM).

Profits

The FAÉCUM was implied at the time of the Grève Québécois coed of 2005. With more half of its members in strike, the FAÉCUM took part in several of the mobilizations organized at the time of this strike. She asserted the return of the 103 million . In 2006, it obtained the transformation of related expenses of 120$ per year imposed by the University into cotisaton non-olbigatoire.

Pepsi discusses

A discussed agreement was concluded in 1998 between the Université from Montreal, the FAÉCUM and the company of aerated beverages Pepsi Cola. The University of Montreal, the FAÉCUM and Pepsi Cola concluded an agreement giving to Pepsi Cola the rights of the exclusive distribution their products nonalcoholic on the totality of the university campus in exchange of various purses for the students of the University of Montreal, the Pepsi acti-bottom making it possible associations coeds to have access to an amount of money (1$ by students with a minimum of 250$) which enables them to organize activities for their members, and of the Pepsi royalties to the student coffees. These last are important since they are a considerable source of revenue for the student coffees of the University of Montreal.

Structure

The FAÉCUM functions according to a federative structure. It represents the whole of its members by the means of associations coeds.

The FAÉCUM has two types of members: individual members and associative members. The individual members, under the terms of the principle of the Formula Rand, are obliged to be members of the Federation and to pay their contributions. On the other hand, the associative members (associations coeds) can disaffiliate themselves from the Federation. Their members continue to pay to the FAÉCUM, but association coed cannot withdraw benefit from them any more (right to vote at the time of the authorities, services and councils with association, etc). Because of the character symbolic system of disaffiliation, only seven associations coeds are not affiliated with the FAÉCUM.

Congress

The supreme authority of the federation is the Congress where seat the whole of deputy representing associations coeds. Each association coed member of the FAÉCUM can send a number of deputy are equivalent to a grid of proportionality according to the number of members of association. The Congress has authority on the whole of the authorities of the FAÉCUM: Executive office, Board of directors and the central Council).

The Congress must ratify the positions taken by the central Council and adopt the policies voted by the Board of directors. It is responsible for the election of the members of the Executive office, of the Board of directors, just as the appointment of the president and the vice-president of the central Council.

Annual convention proceeds at the end of the Mois of March of each year. The delegates of associations coeds are called to take stock of the year, to adopt orientations of work for the following year and to elect people mentioned Ci-high. Moreover, the files of importance of the FAÉCUM are often brought to be discussed in Congress.

The central Council

The central Council (CC) is the decisional authority responsible for the speech and the planning of the political actions of the FAÉCUM. A representative of each association member of the FAÉCUM sits there. Meeting generally once in the three weeks, it is the place where the great political debates of the FAÉCUM take seat between the Congresses. The various councils of the FAÉCUM discuss, au préalable documents and debates which will take place in the central Council.

Board of directors

The Board of directors supervises management and manages the businesses of the FAÉCUM. It acts in three spheres: human stock management, the financial supervision, the management of the services.

The Board of directors is composed of eight administrators elected by the Congrès and of three members of the Executive office (the general secretary, the co-ordinating with the university businesses and the co-ordinating with finances and services. From the eight administrators elected by the Congress, minimalement three must come members from the student FAÉCUM to the first cycle and three members studying with the higher cycles.

The Councils

The FAÉCUM has four advisory counsels: The Council of the businesses socio-policies (CASP), the Council of the academic businesses (CAA), the Council with the life coed (CVE) and the Council of the studies superiors (THESE).

These councils discuss of the files of the FAÉCUM between the meetings of the central Conseil. They must recommend the opinions, memories and positions with the central Council. The four councils are also used for bringing together around the same table the delegates of associations coeds working on specific fields.

Executive office

The Executive office is responsible for the daily management of the Federation and the application of the mandates which it receives from the various authorities of the Federation. It deals with the whole of the spheres of activity of the Federation (academic, sociopolitic, services with the students, sociocultural, etc). It is composed of nine people elected by the Congrès. The officers work full-time for the FAÉCUM and are elected of May 1st with the April 30th of each year.

Participative committees

There exist also two participative committees with the FAÉCUM, that is to say the SCANNED (Monitoring for University Responsible Consumption and the Ethical Transactions) and UniVERTcité. These committees are instructed, with a budget allocated by the FAÉCUM, to work in their respective field.

UniVERTcity

The environmental committee studying UniVERTcité gathers students members of the FAÉCUM eager to promote the respect of the environment and the principles of the Sustainable development. The objective of the committee is, mainly, to sensitize the community coed with the environmental problems and to act so that the university of Montreal becomes an institution civiquement responsible.

SCANNED

The committee Monitoring for University Responsible Consumption and the Ethical Transactions (SCANNED) has the role of supporting the investment responsible and ethical with the Université of Montreal. The committee makes pressure on the various university actors so that they become aware of the importance of their actions. It organizes also several activities of sensitizing near the students.
