Federation of Australia of football

The Federation of Australia of football ( Football Federation Australia Ltd. F) is an association gathering the clubs of Football of Australia and organizing national competitions and the international matches of the selection of Australia.

The national federation of Australia is founded in 1961. It is affiliated with FIFA since 1963 and is member of OFC. Before January 2005, its name was Australian Soccer Association (ASA), which had succeeded itself Soccer Australia in 2003.

History

Following the fall of the old federation of football of Australia, “Soccer Australia”, the Australian government had drawn up an independent survey called the Crawford report/ratio. This report/ratio recommended, inter alia things, the pure and simple reform of the federation under the name of “Australian Soccer Association” (ASA) with a provisional board of directors, directed by the famous Australian business man Frank Lowy. The ASA was famous, in 2005, to recognize the general use of the word “football”, rather than “soccer”, and to disassociate themselves from the failures of the old administration and the former national league. The federation then created the sentence “old soccer, new football” (old soccer, new football) for better representing this change.

January 1st, 2006, F became member the Asian confederation of football, after several decades spent within the confederation of Oceania. F hopes that the participation of the national selections of Australia in the AFC will help the level of Australian football to improve and will allow a less problematic qualification of the team of Australia for the World cup, by in particular avoiding the match of very difficult stopping always against a team of the Latin America or Asia.

Moreover, with much of the strongest teams of the area based in the Middle East, it is from now on more probable than the Australian selections will include/understand players of elite installed in Europe and belonging to best the leagues of the continent.
