Federal social court

The federal social Tribunal ( of Bundessozialgericht , BSG) is the German jurisdictional body placed at the top of the social order jurictionnel. He considers in call the litigations concerning the Social right, in particular those relating to the Health insurance (long-term care, pensions, accidents industrial, etc).

He was created on September 11th, 1954 pursuant to article 95 of the Fundamental law, and sits at Cassel.

It is one of the five German supreme jurisdictions with the Federal court, the Federal court of work, the federal Administrative court and the Federal court of finances.

  • Georg Wannagat (1916-2006), from November 1st, 1968 to June 30th, 1984
  • Heinrich Reiter (born in 1930), from July 1st, 1984 to August 31st, 1995
  • Matthias von Wulfen (born in 1942), since September 1st, 1995

The vice-president of the Court is since August 2003 Ruth Wetzel-Steinwedel.
