History
The March 3rd 1944, the Federal council decided to establish a federal School of sport above Bienne. The choice took place between several sites candidates, of which that of Chaumont, above Neuchâtel.Called at its beginnings federal School of gymnastics and sport , it was a center of course at the disposal of the national sporting federations, as well as a training center of the monitors of the military preparatory Instruction, called to compensate for the fragile physical condition of the mobilized young men. The school concerned the federal military Department a long time, before being allotted to the federal Department of the interior in 1984, person in charge of the questions of education. The adoption, in 1972, of a federal law encouraging the gymnastics and the sport made it possible to regulate the relations of the Confederation with the sport and succeeded, within the framework of series of measure of encouragement, with the creation of Jeunesse and Sport (J+S). This movement replaced the continuation Teaching of the gymnastics and sports (EPGS), created in 1947 within the framework of the school of Macolin.
