Federal electoral commission

The federal electoral commission (original name in English: Federal Election Commission - FEC ) is a lawful organization independent of the the United States, charged to manage and make apply the law to the Financement of the federal elections in this country.

The FEC was created in 1975 by the Congrès of the United States after the amendment of 1974 brought to the Loi on the federal electoral campaigns of 1971.

It is made up of six members proposed by the president and approved by the Sénat of the United States carrying out a six years mandate. It cannot be made up of more than three members representing the same party.

The commission is currently made up of Robert D. Lenhard (president - named in 2006), David Mr. Mason (vice-president - named in 2005), Hans A. von Spakovsky (member - named in 2006), Steven T. Walther (member - named in 2006), Ellen L. Weintraub (member - named in 2006), sixth seat to be provided.
