Federal administration (Germany)

A federal administration ( of Bundesbehörde ) is a Public administration German charged to ensure the action of the Fédération.

There exist four hierarchical levels:

  • the supreme federal administrations ( of obersten Bundesbehörden ) are placed at the top of the administrative hierarchy. There is 19 since 2005: the federal ministers, the federal Chancellery, the office of press and information of the Federal government, the federal Presidency, the Federal court of the accounts and the Delegated Federal government to the culture and the media. They exert the supervision of the administrations of higher level, of 78 corporations of public law, 23 foundations of public law and 35 agencies.
  • the 69 federal administrations of higher level ( of Bundesoberbehörden ) are placed under the responsibility of a federal minister without having the responsibility for other administrations, and have the load of a public policy for the whole of the territory of the Federation.
  • the 36 federal administrations of intermediate level ( of Bundesmittelbehörden ) establish the link between a ministry federal and a federal administration of lower level. They are responsible for the local application of a federal policy.
  • the 304 federal administrations of lower level ( of Bundesunterbehörden ) are placed under the responsibility of a federal administration of intermediate row and implement the action of the Federation only on a given territory and in a given field.
