The federal Polytechnic school of Zurich (in German Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zurich , ETHZ) is a technical university located at Zurich, Suisse. Its shortened French name is EPFZ. It is sometimes called “ETH” or “Poly” according to its original name.
The ETHZ is regarded by certain as one of the universities leader in Europe in the field of the Chimie, the Physique and the Informatique. It is also famous in the Germanic world for its elevated level.
With a new law in 1991 which became effective in 1993, the associated ETHZ, FPSL and 4 research institutes were gathered within the Domaine of the federal Polytechnic schools which is managed by the council of the polytechnic schools.
The ETH currently consists of 16 departments:
The ETH is located on two distinct campuses. The oldest buildings are in the center of Zurich, in a district called ETH Zentrum (ETH Center). It is the historical heart of the ETH with in particular its principal building with its cupola. The ETH is partly also located on the Hönggerberg hill, in edge of the city. They are new and very vast buildings. A system of bus (free for the pupils and the professors) connects the two campuses.
Many Swiss prizes winner of the Nobel Prize were or are associated with the ETH Zurich:
