Fedayin
The fedayin (plural of feda' I فدائي which means that which is sacrificed for something or somebody) are small groups of Palestinian commandos not recognizing Israel and who oppose it by the weapons. Often mentioned in the years 1970, they are at the base of the movements like Hamas, or the Islamic Jihad.
Following occupation of the West Bank by Israel in 1967, fedayins install on bank Is the Jordan, in Jordan, and it is of this new base that they carry out their armed actions against Israel until September 1970 (September black) where Jordan (king Hussein was obstructed by movements of fight Palestinian since itself wished certain peace with Israel (plane Rogers - name of the American Secretary of State - which takes again the broad outlines of the resolution 242 (1967)), on September 16th, forms a military government and the army receives the order to intervene against the PFLP of George Habache.
The engagements, of an incredible violence, make between 10.000 and 15.000 Palestinian victims, including civil; they continue until September 27th. Less than one year later, the PLO (of which the PFLP was a branch) is completely évincée of Jordan, and thus the Palestinian movements of fight are seen radically restricted.
There are also the fedayin of the people (http://www.iranian-fedaii.de/), a group of opposition against providing it Iranian. Without forgetting the fedayin Saddam, one of the component of the Guerilla Sunnite in Iraq
Several terms are appropriate to translate the word fedayyin. Thus, one can retain " commando-suicide" , and according to the analysis of Henry Laurens, it would be closer to the " franc-tireur" , i.e. civil combatants (thus illegal according to the terms of the Geneva Convention). The Old of the Mountain , Hassan Ace Sabah, Master of the sect of the Assassins, thus named those which were indicated for a mission, to which generally made continuation death.
