FedExForum

The FedExForum is a general sports room located at Memphis, in the Tennessee.

Since 2004, its tenants are the Grizzlies de Memphis, a team of Basket-ball of NBA and the male team of university Basket-ball of the Université of Memphis, the Memphis Tigers (NCAA). Its capacity is of 18.165 places for the Basket-ball and 12.633 for the Hockey, the room has 75 continuations of luxury and 2.500 seats of club.

History

The preceding room of the Grizzlies de Memphis and the Memphis Tigers was the Pyramid Arena. Work of the new arena began the June 20th 2002 and the building was opened with the public the September 6th 2004. The FedExForum was built at a cost of $250 million USD (resulting from Memphis Public Authority Building) and it is currently had by the town of Memphis; the rights of name were bought by the most known firm of Memphis, Fedex. The room also has the possibilities of accommodating matches of Hockey and of the Concert S. the FedExForum was conceived by the cabinet of architects Ellerbe Becket. It covers a surface of 75.000 square meters.

The room was the first arena to use the new clocks “see-through” (see through) which make it possible to the spectators sitted behind the basket to see the action of the match without the clock interfering their field of view. The idea came when a fan of NBA and New Jersey Nets which had sat behind the basket of the Continental Airlines Arena sent email to the police chief of NBA David Stern, requiring technology to improve its vision of the match. These new clocks were installed with the Wachovia Center, Charlotte Bobcats Arena, and TD Banknorth Garden.

The room tournament accommodates the Conference the USA men' S basketball since 2005. It will be the site of one of the four regional finales in NCAA Men' S Division I Basketball Tournament of 2009, and one of the four regional finales in NCAA Women' S Division I Basketball Tournament of 2010.
