Death Metal before leaving its first album Soul off has New Machine in 1992. The bass player Andrew Shives joined the group to allow Dino Cazares to play of the guitar in concert. Fear Factory signs the following year the maximum Fear Is The Mind Killer on which titles are remixés by Rhys Fulber and Bill Leeb of the group Electro-undue money Front Line Assembly. During the recording, the formation is joined by the keyboard Reynor Diego which, with Rhys Fulber, is present on the rounds. Andrew Shives is replaced in 1994 by Christian Olde Wolbers. One year later, Fear Factory signs its second album, Demanufacture , then in 1997 Remanufacture - Cloning Technology , made up of remixes of the titles of Demanufacture . The members of the group invest themselves then in parallel projects and wait until 1998 to record their third album, Obsolete . In 2001, Digimortal appears. The following year leaves Concrete , republication of a demonstration recorded initially in 1991.In March 2002, Burton C. Beautiful announces its departure of the group, explaining it by conflicts between the members. A little later the group announces its separation; however, it is reformed later the same year, with Burton C. Beautiful but without Dino Cazares. In spring 2004, the group leaves the album Archetype . It is from now on Christian Olde Wolbers the guitarist of the group, the low one being ensured by Byron Stroud (Strapping Young Lad, Zimmer' S Hole) in concert and by Christian Olde Wolbers on album. In August 2005 appears the last album in date, Transgression .
With crossroads between the Death metal (at the beginning of their career, vocal style of Burton C. Beautiful having evolved/moved starting from the album Demanufacture ) and the industrial Metal, Fear Factory is a precursory group in several fields: the Concrete demonstration recorded in 1991 with Ross Robinson which will become then a famous producer of metal, the use of guitars with 7 granted cords very low and the integration of samples in pieces of metal.
Concept
During a whole part of the career of Fear Factory, the texts of Burton C. Beautiful developed the topic of the opposition of the man and the machine, taking as a starting point certain books (1984, the War of the Worlds) and science fiction films (and probably of the series Terminator in particular, but also Blade Runner). The albums Obsolete Demanufacture , and Digimortal are all of the album-concept which approach this topic, each one under a new angle. The two following albums, Prototype and Transgression , partly gave up this subject. The machines (more precisely, the Sample S and the Synthetizer S) occupy an important place in the music of Fear Factory. The group employs them on many titles, creating a sound and an atmosphere which constitutes to some extent their trademark.
