Fawzi Selu
Fawzi Selu (1905 - 1972) (Arab: فوزيالسلو) is a soldier and a president Syria N, who exerted his functions of the December 3rd 1951 with the July 11th 1953.
Fawzi Selu followed its studies to the military academy of Homs or it joined the special forces Frenchwoman, creates in Syria when the France imposed its mandate in the country in July 1920. Its military career is then a success, and it becomes in 1946 the military principal of Homs. It took part in the Israeli-Arab Guerre of 1948, or it was very close to the general Husni Al-Zaim. When Zaim reaches the capacity in 1949, Selu becomes military attach3e to the peace negotiations syro-Israeli. He is the principal architect of cease the fire which was signed in July 1949.
Selu which was supported by Zaim wanted a payment complete of the conflict with Israel, it wanted to find an agreement with the Israelis on the borders final, the Palestinian Réfugiés and the establishment of a Syrian embassy with Tel-Aviv. But president Zaim is victim of a Coup d'etat carried out by Sami Al-Hinnawi, he is imprisoned then carried out. The representatives of the company civilian again could reach the capacity, of which the nationalist chief Hachem Al-Atassi. Atassi accepted the armistice with Israel but refused to sign a peace treaty with this country. With the coup d'etat of Adib Chichakli, Selu approaches him, and becomes its right-hand man. Chichakli wanted that Atassi remains president of the republic, but its will to impose Selu as Minister for defense displeased in Atassi which makes the decision to resign of its station. The Chichakli general thus makes the decision to name Fawzi Selu chair republic, Prime Minister and Head of State major. But all the capacities were actually between the hands of Chichakli.
Together, the two men have create a police State by removing any opposition. Under the direction of Chichakli, Selu improved the relations between its country and the Jordan, by opening the first Syrian embassy with Amman. It also tried to maintain better diplomatic relations with the Egypt, the Saudi Arabia and the Lebanon.
The July 11th 1953, Chichakli puts an end to the functions of Selu, and becomes by this same occasion, chair republic. Selu, share then for Saudi Arabia or it become one of the principal advisers of the king Saud, then of the king Fayçal. When Chichakli was reversed in February 1954, a military tribunal with Damas charged Selu with corruption, abuse of power, and modification illegal of the constitution. He was condemned to died by Contumace.
