Faverois

Faverois is a commune of the Territoire of Belfort belonging to the canton of Delle. The village developed on Right Bank of the Coeuvatte , a river which takes its source with Coeuve in Suisse, sprinkles Courcelles and Florimont before joining Allaine with Delle. Another small brook crosses Faverois by running the North-East towards the south and divided the village into two formerly.

In the first centuries of our era, the territory of Faverois was crossed by an important Roman way connecting Mandeure to Kembs and Augst, in Alsace. In 728, the count Eberhard of Alsace gave to the Abbaye of Murbach a field in the west of Faverois and delimited by the brook crossing the village. Thus Faverois was divided during centuries between the seigniory of Florimont and that of Delle. In 1314, the village had already a church. During the War Thirty Year old, towards 1632, the village was probably devastated by the Swedish troops like were Delle, Courcelles, Florimont… considering which it did not remain that 22 subjects in 1667 whereas one counted 410 inhabitants in 1803. Since the population increased relatively little since 460 people were listed in 1999.

The Saint-USSR church, built in 1727 contains old elements dating from the 18th century: Christ in cross, retable, pulpit…
