The faunal reserve of Laurentides belongs to the network of the faunal reserves of the Quebec managed by the Société of the establishments of outdoor of Quebec. It is located between the town of Quebec and the area of the Saguenay-Lake-St-Jean.
C' is a primarily mountainous territory, of which the top highest, the Mont Beautiful-Fountain, culminates with 1151 Mr.

History

The " way of Jésuites" , first way to cross the sector is cleared in 1676 and connects Quebec to the Lac Midsummer's Day in three days while passing by the Lac Saint-Charles, the valley of the Rivière Jacques-Cartier until the Lac Jacques-Cartier, the Pikauba river, the river with the Barks and the Rivière Métabetchouane.

The first way more or less suitable for motor vehicles, the " road of Québec" makes it possible as of 1881 to connect Hébertville to the lake Midsummer's Day in Quebec in 40 hours. A junction towards Chicoutimi is built in 1882.

The reserve was created in 1895 under the name of “park of Laurentides”.

In 1944 and 1945, work of land surveying make it possible to set up the current road, the road 175, inaugurated in 1948.

In July 1952, a radar tracking station of the Ligne Pinetree was established with the Apica mount, in the center of the reserve, within the framework of the establishment of a line of defense of North America against the bombers coming from Soviet Union.

In 1981, the reserve was cut down by two portions of its territory to its southern edge and with its edge is to allow creation, respectively, of the National park of the Jacques-Cartier and the National park of the Large-Gardens.

The radar tracking station was officially closed in 1990.

In 2005, the old restaurant called " The étape" , located on the banks of the Lake Jacques-Cartier and Safety of Quebec posts it are demolished.

Today, in 2007, remains an old vault, several country cottages, a restaurant frankness as well as the post office of the Patrol Help (an special unit of the Ministry for Transport of Quebec specialized in the desincarceration of the broken vehicles in the Faunique reserve) {necessary réfences} One finds there also a vehicle ambulance man and a barracks of the CTAQ.

Access

The road 175, named Talbot boulevard in the honor of Antonio Talbot, deputy of Chicoutimi and Minister for the Roadway system under Duplessis, crosses the faunal reserve between the town of Quebec, on the one hand, and the towns of Saguenay and Hébertville, on the other hand. It is a road which counts, according to the sectors, one or two ways in each direction.

Important work is currently in hand (2006) and, in the long term, the road will count two ways in each direction, with a quay level in the center.

Territory

The territory is of a surface of 7.861 km ² and, as its name indicates it, is included/understood in the solid mass of the Laurentides.

The principal tops are:

  • Mount Beautiful-Fountain (1151 m)

  • Mount of Québécois the (1120 m)
  • Mount François-of-Laval (1082 m)
  • Mount Mount Jean-Hubert (1060 m)
  • Francine-C Mount. - McKenzie (1082 m)
  • Mount Apica (882 m)

It should be noted that the Mont Raoul-Blanchard which culminates with 1181 meters is not located on the territory of the Faunal Reserve of Laurentides, but rather on the private grounds of the Seminar of Quebec southernmost.
