Fauna of Galápagos
Fauna is single in the National park of Galápagos, each island contains its specific fauna.
Reptiles
The most interesting species are, of course, famous the giant tortoises (but they are in danger), and of many other endemic reptiles of the islands: the Iguana S (sailors and terrestrial).
Birds
One counts 58 species of birds, of which 28 exist only on the archipelago: albatross, Penguins, 3 species the insane ones ( Sulidae , insane with blue legs in particular), cormorants apterous and 13 species of Finches of Darwin.Le Faucon of Galapagos is the only indigenous predator of the tortoises.
Marine animal-life
One counts more than 300 fish species already were listed around the archipelago, as well as otaries, Dauphin S, Baleine S (Humpback whale in particular), turtles, sea lions.
Invertebrates
Note for information, that the islands are populated by nearly 1.600 species of insects different including 300 coleopters, 80 ground spiders and 80 snails, 650 shells and molluscs, 120 crabs and many other small animals.Très known is the Crabe S with the red and blue legs whose ancestors crossed the ocean.
Settlement of the islands
One speaks about these islands as being enchanted or a paradise forgotten by time. Before the arrival of Darwin, the archipelago of Galapagos was a kind of Eden (paradise) populated single creatures in the world. It is supposed that Galapagos were populated by the small vertebrate ones which would have derived on rafts from foliages carted with broad by the rivers from South America. The animals with cold blood, more enduring that the others, were more numerous to reach the islands then evolved/moved in the face and manners. The marine animals arrived by their own means. Since Darwin, it is an irreplaceable laboratory of nature, alas threatened by the human activities. The species adapted to the natural environment or disappeared. Thus you will see birds of the same species which, from one island to another, have different wings or the nozzle.
