MARINE Louis Professor of ethnography, Louis Marin (1871-1960) was born in Faulx, in the part of Meurthe remained French after the treaty of Frankfurt of May 10th, 1871. Engaged in the rows of the republican federation since 1903, he became vice-president of the Parliament in 1923. Appointed of Meurthe-et-Moselle of 1905 to 1951, Louis Marin was also general adviser (1910-1955), president (1934-1952), then honorary president of the general advice of this department. He entered to the government as Minister for the Areas released in 1924, in the third Poincaré cabinet and the transitory cabinet François Marsal. Two years later, with the return of Poincaré, it was named Minister for the Pensions. Chief of the opposition in 1924-1926 and 1932-1934, it was chosen by Doumergue for the wallet of the Public health in February 1934. Symbol of the nationalist right, it entered the Flandin ministry to the honorary post of minister of state. It preserved this place in the Bouisson cabinet and the fourth Laval ministry, before agreeing to belong to the Reynaud government, in 1940, where it fought the idea of armistice. It left its functions of minister of state on June 16th, 1940. He wanted to take part neither in the debate nor with the vote which, on July 10th, 1940, conferred the full powerss on Pétain. Member of the Assemblies advisory and constituent (1944-1946) and of the National Assembly of 1946 to 1951, member of the Academy of Science morals and policies, Louis Marin was also a philosopher and a scientist.
