Fatmir Koçi
Fatmir Koçi is an Albanian realizer, also scenario writer and producer, born on November 30th 1959 with Tirana in Albania.
Biography
Very young person it is impassioned for the cinema and sees many traditional, in particular French films. It enters to the Academy of the Art schools de Tirana in 1983 and continues its studies of theater, and then made a training course in Kinostudio Nouvelle Albania (aparatus of propaganda of the mode of the 1950-1990).It is also one of the founders of Marubi Film and Multimedia School, first school of the trades of the sound and the image in the history of Albania, which opened its doors in October 2004.
Its first short film, Nje I trete (1988), is turned in black and white, according to its own scenario. A sculptor is making the portrait of a young boy, when he notices a red spot on the face of the sculpture. By digging wood, it extracts a ball from it…
Trotts It through the balls (1989), a 43 minutes medium-length film, always in black and white, is the history of a one year old little boy which survives miraculeusement the massacre of its family by the Nazis. The villagers try to save it in spite of the danger.
The action of Obituary (1993), a science fiction film of which he also wrote the scenario, proceeds in a medieval castle. When the lord dies suddenly, his wife tries to dissimulate her death, until its corpse transforms into skeleton on the throne. Its subjects continue to venerate it and the widow continues to eat for two. The Festival of films of the world of Montreal notices this film and allots a Special mention to him.
Documentary 25 minutes, Alternate Head , gains the Grand Prix Meridian lines 1997 with Aubagne, the Grand Prix of the Jury to the International festival of video of Liege, as well as the Grand Prix with the 15th festival of video of Estavar - Llivia (France) in 1998. One sees a sculptor recovering there materials of the statues raised with the glory of the former dictators of Albania to make works of Article of them.
With Tirana, year zero (2001) - which profits from funds French and Belgian -, Fatmir Koçi conquers an international audience. It gains gold the Alexandre, the supreme reward of the 42ème international festival of film of Thessalonique. Its film is also selected with the Mostra. The subject is of topicality: through the history of a young couple, the question which is put is this one: is it necessary to leave Albania costs that costs, or to remain?
After another documentary, Fatmir Koç prepares a new feature-length film supported by CNC, the black Year , adapted novel of Ismail Kadare.
According to Grégory Escouglaire, Fatmir Koçi “thus incarnates the critical fringe, limits protestor, of a generally preserving and didactic national cinema, even moralizer”.
