Synopsis

On the coast Norman, Juliette, easy and carrying about sixty elegantly, lives vast and beautiful property, assisted by Honorine, the servant ancestral and retrogresses, that it places and nourishes. Since her husband gave up it to go to live with the Brésil, Juliette life freely at the rate/rhythm of adventures without a future to which his/her Dany friend, managing of a club, is somewhat accessory. Sacrificing willingly to the tradition, it prepares to receive for the weekend her children and small children at the time of the Mother's Day. Juliette in the same way closes the eyes on the commérages of her servant whom it makes pretense ignore them through her children: the weakness and spinelessness of Benoit who tries to dissimulate his homosexuality (whereas it arrives with “a buddy-gigolo”), the chronic dissatisfaction of the depressive Isabelle, the parasitism of Laurent and the profit-sharing of Philippe with his Elisabeth wife, a couple of parvenu small shopkeepers and with the narrow spirit. Only to which it seems really close is her Sophie daughter, brilliant a journalist. The latter arrives tardily, pretexting a report, while Juliette finds increasingly strange the behavior of her Benoît son. She does not delay by learning why: her husband, esseulé and sick, is of return in France and invites all the family for a dinner to Deauville, attempt at reconciliation organized with the assistance of Sophie and Benoît. It is there that it is discovered that the husband formerly forsook woman and children to leave to Brazil with the sister Juliette, act which deeply wounded this one and which she does not forgive. Being considered again betrayed, this time by his/her children, especially by Sophie and Benoît, Juliette will regulate her accounts with family and domestic…

Comment

Satire with the counterparts assassinate, failing to introduce an acceptable family, the film traces the portrait of a deeply wounded woman (it specifies: “Ridiculed and betrayed”). Fault of having been able to find a real affection on behalf of the one of his/her children, Juliette tries to mask her despair by a enjoué behavior of “devoted mother” while collecting the adventures in love without a future. Like she says it to one moment, while contemplating herself in her mirror, “and to say that will not be arranged any more”, when she will feel again betrayed, Juliette will cease giving the exchange to her children to burn without regret of her last beautiful fires of woman. Emmanuelle Rivetted, even when she plays the frivolous ones, extremely well surrounded by some actors of theater, manages to give to her character an astonishing depth which makes that this work of Tilly escapes the family caricature which she could have become.
