Fandroana was the festival of the crowned Bath, of use formerly at the Merina of the center of Madagascar.

The traditions allot the invention of it to the king Ralambo at the 16th century but the comparison with the uses of the people of Southeast Asia (Indonesia) related in Merina shows that it is actually about the perpetuation of old the FĂȘte of water. At Merina however, Fandroana (which means " literally; bain") whose celebration lasted nearly one week had also included the festival of the new year. It had been celebrated a long time at the beginning of the month of Asaramanitra or Alahamady, inaugurating the year of the lunar calendar. From the year 1884 however, the celebration of Fandroana culminated on November 22nd, at the same time day of birthday of the birth and the access to the throne of the queen Ranavalona III. Fandroana also then acted as national festival of the Royaume merina.

After the abolition of the royalty in 1897, the authority colonial Frenchwomen replaced it by the celebration of July 14th, celebrating in France the catch of the Bastille. Since however the medium of the Years 1990, the celebration of Fandroana tends to return little by little by the means of the festivities of Alahamadibe.
