Famous chechmates

This article contains a list of the famous chechmate S of the Jeu of failures.

To kiss death

The kiss of death is one of the chechmates simplest to implement, since it uses the power of the lady, protected by another part, to block all the exits of the unfavourable king.

Chechmate with choked

The chechmates with choked are the chechmates where the boxes of escape of the king are occupied by other parts of the same color. One generally speaks about chechmate with choked when it is the rider which puts the king in failure. The oldest known mention of one chechmate with choked goes back to Lucena:

Lucena proposes the following combination of chechmate:

1. Dc4+ Rh8 (If 1. … Rf8 2. Df7#) 2. Cf7+ Rg8 3. Ch6+ Rh8 (Rf8 loses same manner) 4. Dg8+! Txg8 5. Cf7#

Chechmate of Anastasie

One can meet this chechmate after having sacrificed a part on unfavourable castling. It is characterized by the rider blocking the exits of the king on the second or seventh column, and the lathe or the lady subduing on the column of the king.

Chechmate of Boden

The chechmate of Boden follows the following diagram:

It holds its name of the player Samuel Boden who provides the oldest known example of it, in London in 1853 against Schuler. Esteban Canal gave of it an illustration known at the time of a simultaneous part, in Budapest in 1934:

Last played blow: 10. … 0-0-0??

With the white parts directed towards the wing rams, the queen-side castling is already risky. Channel even shows that it is about a fatal error:

11. axb4! Dxa1+ 12. Rd2! Dxh1 (Channel sacrifices its two turns to deviate the black lady. All is now in place for the chechmate of Boden.) 13. Dxc6+! bxc6 14. Fa6#

This part remained famous for the sacrifices which are carried out there, and is known under the name of immortal Péruvienne .
