Family of Osmond

The family of Osmond is a former French aristocratic family originating in Normandy and now extinct.

The family affirms to be attached to a companion of William the Conqueror, Saint Osmond († 1099), archbishop of Salisbury, which appears with the Bataille of Hastings in 1066 and was chancellor of the kingdom of 1072 with 1078, bishop of Sées in 1078 and took part in the development of the Domesday Book .

She carries quartered mouths to the flight of hermines and money with three fasces of azure . This flight of hermines is found in the weapons of the Comté of Somerset in England.

The marquisat of Osmond was created by letters patent of March 1719, recorded with the Parlement of Normandy the December 4th 1720, starting from the meeting under this name of the seigniories of Aubry-le-Panthou, the Fresnaye-with-Savage, Ménil-Froger and Roiville, in current the Département of the Flowering ash.

  • Castle of Osmond, close to Aubry-le-Panthou (Flowering ash): After Rene Henri d' Osmond, 1st marquis d' Osmond, it passed by heritage to his sister, Louise Aimée Jeanne d' Osmond, marries of Henry Descorches of Holy-Cross of Mesnil Gonfray, then with its descent.
  • Castle of Médavy: Rebuilt 1705 with 1723 on the ruins of an old fortress whose two turns of the 15th century remain, the Saint-Piere tower and the Midsummer's Day tower (transformed into vault). Three bridges with two arches give access the main courtyard. The castle is surrounded by gardens to the Frenchwoman.
