Family of Morlhon

The origin of the name of Morlhon is noble and rouergate.

It appears at the origin of the strongholds in the neighborhoods of the year 1000.

The first appearance of the name was found in a compiled document with Jerusalem.

Indeed, in 1053, it is mentioned Ozile II of Morlhon in a deed of gift written in Jerusalem by Rouergat in pilgrimage (before the First crusade) with his Cécile wife on the tomb of the Christ. This act mentions the first name of his/her Raoul father and his grandfather Ozile (what defers us around the year 1000). One finds the traditional alternation of the first names so current in Aveyron (Rouergue) even until our days.

This donation is then confirmed in 1070 per Raoul de Morlhon, the son of Ozile the pilgrim. She allowed the creation of the old part of the current church of Villeneuve (Aveyron) in the fields of the church of the the Holy Sepulchre.

The name is very often still quoted in 1079 and 1099 and then throughout 12th and 13th centuries in very many documents rouergats without however being able to establish a sure filiation.

13th century with the French revolution the work historical Documents on Rouergue, its families and its men remarkable in old and modern times writes in 1853 per Mr. Hippolyte of Barrau and recently republished, enumerates the various branches of the family Morlhon-Veusac, Morlhon-Sanvensa, Morlhon-in Autayrac, Morlhon-Laumière and Morlhon of Rosière while starting with Pons de Morlhon living at the end of the 12th century close to Villefranche de Rouergue.

Following the book of Mr. de Barrau whose work stops with first half of the 19th century, a private note written by Jean Fabre de Morlhon establishes the link with the present generations. A family tree joins together the contained informations in the work of Mr. Hippolyte de Barrau and those of the note.
