Family of Montaigu

The family of Montaigu (in the past Montacute ), originating in the area of Coutances in Basse-Normandie, more precisely in the parish of Montaigu-the-Wood (today in the commune of Gavay), belonged to the baronniales big families Anglo-Norman established in England after the conquest Norman.

The brothers Drogon and Ansger, take part in the Bataille of Hastings (1066), receive grounds in England; they are at the origin of the English branches. We will find them later in the Domesday' S Book under the names of Drogo de Montagud and Ansgerus de Montagud (1086) and owners respectively of Knowle and Preston, in the north of the country.
