Family of Estaing
History
Former family of high the nobility French, originating in the Rouergue and attested as of the the Middle Ages.
The first known mentions of the House of Estaing are beginning of the 11th century. They are lords of the village of their name, Estaing located at the north of Rodez, in Rouergue.
In 1214, with the battles of Bouvines, Déodat, known as Tristan, baron d' Estaing, had saved the life of the king Philippe Auguste and its horse had given him. In testimony of his recognition, the king granted the right to him to adopt the weapons of France, by preserving however the chief of gold which covered its old weapons. Among their the most known characters, one finds prelates, advisers of the kings, chamberlains, general officers in the royal armies, of the governors of province.
This family was accepted with the Honors of the Court in 1750.
Its members were recognized like parents of the king.
The last descendant in male line of this family was the admiral Charles Henri d' Estaing, guillotine on April 28th 1794.

Several families assert a relationship more or less close with to Estaing. In this respect, several Giscard family members, of upper middle classes auvergnate, raised in 1922 the patronym of Estaing which had disappeared, and was that of their direct grandmother.
Lucie-Magdeleine d' Estaing, countess of Cousin of the Molten Tower (1769-1844), lady of Réquistat (not to be confused with its homonym of the other connects, the mistress of Louis XV), ancestor with the 4th degree of Jean Edmond Lucien Giscard (1894-1982), authorized by decree as a Council of State of June 17th, 1922 to raise, like his/her brother and their first cousin Henri, the name of “Estaing” carried by their great-great-grandmother. Lucie-Magdeleine d' Estaing marries in 1792 the count Jacques of COUSIN of the MOLTEN TOWER. Their oldest daughter, Elisabeth de Cousin of the Melted Tower, born in 1790, married Barthélémy Martial Giscard and had only one son, Jean-Jacques Theodore Giscard, born on January 14th, 1824. Jean-Jacques Theodore Giscard married on March 2nd, 1859 Marie Anne Bernardine of LUSSIGNY and had 4 children. The groin, Valéry Giscard Maria the 5/16/1888 and had 2 children, the junior, Edmond Giscard, born on March 29th, 1894 required in front of the Council of State to be called Giscard d'Estaing. Edmond Giscard d'Estaing Maria in 1923 with May Clemence Jacqueline Marie BARDOUX; they had 5 children of which Valéry Rene Marie Georges Giscard d'Estaing born on February 2nd, 1926 in Coblentz
Three Giscard authorized in 1922 to raise the patronym “ of Estaing ” were Rene (1891-1945), Edmond (1894-1982) and Henri (1899-1972).
They were on the other hand more remote parents (with the 14th degree in female line) of the mistress of Louis XV and the admiral d' Estaing. This relationship goes back to Jean d' Estaing (born after 1540, + in 1621), lord of Ravel, which marries in 1580 Gilberte of Rochefoucauld (1560-1623), and had of them four children, of which:
- François d' Estaing, died in 1657, ancestor with the 5th degree of:
- Charles Henri Théodat d' Estaing (1729-1794), admiral de France (1792), count d' Estaing, marquis de Saillans, Viscount of Ravel, the last of the branch of the counts d' Estaing.
- Lucie Magdeleine d' Estaing (1743-1826), lady of the Viscount of Ravel, mistress of Louis XV, natural half-sister of the admiral d' Estaing,
- Charles d' Estaing (1585-1661), sior of Marchatel, natural father of Joachim d' Estaing (born in 1610), sior of Réquista, condemned for " usurpation of noblesse" (Henri IV had just amended the law, and the bastard branches lost their nobility, which was a true innovation) and, by him, ancestor with the 5th degree of:
- Lucie-Magdeleine d' Estaing, rams of Réquistat, countess of Cousin of the Molten Tower (1769-1844), (homonym of his/her cousin).
