Family of Créquy

Créquy (often written Créqui ), is a family originating in Picardy, which takes its name of the locality of Créquy, in the Pas-de-Calais. Its genealogy goes back to the 10th century, and is at the origin of the houses of Blécourt, Canaples, Heilly, and Royon.

It was divided into several branches, which provided several distinguished characters. The branch elder, known as of the lords de Créqui , melted in 1543 with the Maison of Blanchefort, from where left the dukes Créqui and the princes of Pitch.

  • Henri de Créquy died in the Siège of Damiette in 1240;

  • Jean de Créquy , was with the service of the Bourguignons. It took share with the defense of Paris against Jeanne d' Arc in 1429, and was Ambassadeur of Aragon and France;
  • Antoine de Créquy was one of the captains of François Ier, and died in an accident with the seat of Hesdin in 1523;
  • Jean VIII , lord de Créquy, prince de Poix, lord of Canaples (deceased in 1555), left three wire of which Antoine de Créquy (1535 - 1574).

The Notre-Dame church of the Hamel (Oise) was the seat of a pilgrimage commemorating a legendary miracle with the profit of a lord de Créquy.
