Origin

It is one of the most powerful families of the duchy of Mayenne, originating in Vaux Champéon.

History

Guillaume of Vaux sells a dîme with the chapter Mans, in the parish of Aron, 1264. At the 14th century and the 15th century, its members are of all the watches of gendarmes and in all the combat. Jean, Gervais, Geoffroy meet with Avranches, Paris, Fraud-of-Brittany, Angers, Pontorson, in 1379, 1380, under the orders of Bertrand of Guesclin or his lieutenants. Geoffroy, 1380, Jean, 1386, Guyot, 1392, Pierre, 1413, Geoffroy, 1418, Andre, 1425, order themselves of the companies of riders.

Jean of Be worth, reads one in a report of 1423, which is noble knight, of great and notable line… for its valiancy ordered captain of the chastel and places of Mayne,… resisted valiantly against the enemies and extremely guerroyés them, by espécial at the day of Baugé where valiantly went and was extremely sorry, and since with a destrousse of Angloiz where had died VIxx on the place; … and his/her fathers and grandfather swage in their time have the guard of the place of Mayne .

In the middle of the 14th century, Guillaume of Vaux builds and founded with Fountain-Daniel a vault intended to be used for the burials of the family. Foulques was abbot of Évron of 1399 with 1404. Guillaume of Vaux recalls in 1455 that Samson of Vaux, his father, had been prisoner of the English.

The branches which left the principal trunk Vaux and of Levaré are many and powerful: Vaudemusson, the Turn-Emond, Wood-Brault, Oresse, Dureil, Juvaudière, etc

Guillaume of Be worth, sior of the Wood-of-Pine, was appointed of the nobility to the States of Blois, 1576. Gilles of Vaux is qualified by César Egasse of Boulay humanissimus inter Cemanos .
