Famicom Disk System

The Famicom Disk System ( FDS ) is an extension of the video Game console Famicom . This peripheral of Nintendo is placed under the console and makes it possible to use a format owner of Disquette making it possible to store plays. The FDS left the February 21st 1986 only to the Japan. An American exit was planned for the end of 1986 but was finally cancelled. Always in Japan, Sharp carried out (under license of Nintendo) the Twin Famicom which was in fact a Famicom console integrating Disk System directly.

The apparatus is connected (by a cable) to a modified cartridge (bearing the name of adapter RAM) which is placed in the port cartouche of the console.

Adapter RAM contains 32 kilobytes RAM for the storage of temporary programs, 8 kilobytes of RAM to store sprite S and a Integrated circuit ASIC.

Plays

Great Nintendo series such as Mario , The Legend off Zelda or Metroid were adapted on Famicom Disk System. Several plays on FDS gained much success in Japan ( Shin oniga shima , Famicom Tantei Club , etc)
