Fameck
Fameck is a common the North-East of the France, in the department of the the Moselle, close to Thionville and to the Luxembourg border . Its inhabitants is Fameckois.
History
The commune of Fameck is made of 5 hamlets: Rémelange, Budange, Edange, Morlange and Fameck whose names appear respectively from 855 to 1157. Thus Fameck and its " annexes" count among the places in the past populated area. FAMECK comes from FALMACRES, Gallo-Roman designation whose suffix wants to say " Ferme". It is only into 1744 that the name will take its final C-W communication. These five hamlets which will form after 1789 the commune of Fameck constituted the advanced points of the Barrois, the Luxembourg and the Lorraine. The vocation of Fameck, like that of the majority of the villages of the area, was primarily agricultural. After 1870, at the time of the " return to France" and jointly to the development of the iron and steel industry in the Valley of Fensch under the direction of the family De Wendel, the situation will change.Today, the town of Fameck counts approximately 13.000 inhabitants and it overcame the serious difficulties which accompanied its too fast growth. The number from abroad who represent forty nationalities, is estimated at 2680. After rather difficult beginnings, one estimates that in Fameck integration was done satisfactorily.
