False-fruit

A false-fruit (sometimes false fruit ) is the result, after the Fécondation, of the transformation of the Induvie S of a Inflorescence.

By contrast, the true Fruit, is resulting from only the Pistil of the Fleur. Any other body which does not degenerate after fecundation (induvie) moults out of false-fruit. So the term recovers a very varied field. Many false-fruits are usually sold under the name of fruit . In general the false-fruit is not a Organe, but the combination of several bodies.

  • Thus, the Fig or sycone is not a true fruit, but the transformation of a Inflorescence. The inflorescence consists of a almost closed floral Réceptacle hollow, which before fecundation carries very many flowers. It is this receptacle which will develop and become fleshy. The fruits are the Akène S which grate under the tooth and which we believe being of seeds.

  • the Ananas is a multiple fruit (Infrutescence). At the origin, the flowers are carried by a stem called floral Hampe and the ovaries of each flower are welded and narrowly overlapping the ones with the others. Each visible hexagon outside pineapple corresponds to the remainders of the Périanthe and the style and shows the limits of each fruit. When one cuts pineapple longitudinally, the cylinder denser than one observes in the medium is the result of the transformation of the floral Hampe. At the top one observes a small seedling, who can push, if his bud were not killed, like one systematically does it before the marketing of pineapple.

  • the Apple or the Poire results from a Ovaire infère, i.e. located under the remainder of the flower and, consequently, surrounded by the floral receptacle. After fecundation, the receptacle develops at the same time as the fruit. The apple and the pear are thus the combination of a fleshy fruit and a fleshy receptacle. When an apple is cut, one notices, at a certain place, in the middle of the flesh, a line which seems to separate apple into two. This line corresponds to the vessels of the Carpelle and thus very roughly in extreme cases of the fruit. The Mésocarpe is fleshy. But where is the épicarpe  ? It is not distinct any more. The Endocarpe is this rigid membrane which limits the cavities containing seeds.

  • the strawberry is a Réceptacle which developed, and the fruits are these small Akène S yellows which one observes on the surface.

  • the Cynorhodon or Cynorrhodon which is a red receptacle containing the fruits of the Rosier and of the wild rose would be a false-fruit.
