Fallout
Fallout is a roleplay on PC developed by Black Isle Studios (which will be formed under this name only with the development of Fallout 2) and published by Interplay Entertainment, published in 1997.
The world of Fallout is an original universe which is strongly inspired by the universe of Wasteland. In English Fallout means fallen down . It is thus about a direct reference to the nuclear Hiver which follows the use of nuclear weapons.
Universe
After the Great War which devastated the whole world, the the United States are nothing any more but one vast irradiated zone where various factions, trying to survive while being organized in gangs, create new cities on the ruins of the Civilization of the 21e century. To be protected from the atomic explosions, of the underground fallout shelters, called “Abris” ( Vault in English) was built. Certain people could terrer inside before the Cataclysme. Supposed to leave at the end of 10 years, the survivors of the Abri 13 ended up preferring to remain to live in basement rather than to risk an exit at the great day. But one day the water chip breaks down and threatens survival of the Abri…
Scenario
Gameplay
The scenario is the starting point of an extremely vast adventure, in a disfigured world, salts, impresses of a black Humor incisive. Esthetics points out much the futuristic Design such as it was considered in the Science-fiction Années 1950.Graphics are in isometric 3D.
The liberty of action is very large: the player can practically do all that it wishes, namely to be a good Samaritan, an unnamable villain, or both at the same time… The tone of the play is deliberately adult, and this violent world filled of organized bands, male prostitute (E) S and with hard drugs is particularly credible. Broad freedom of movement involves besides very many Bogue S.
The engagements are done with the turn by turn, which makes them very tactical. Each action (movement, attacks, access to the inventory) involves the consumption of a certain number of “points of action”, which, when they are exhausted, put an end to the turn play. The character of the player can be accompanied by allies; the player cannot however not direct them itself during this phase of play, contrary to the principle which one finds in the play Baldur' S Gate .
Doubling
The original version profits from the participation of some actors of reputation for the doubling of the characters:- Ron Perlman : Narrator/Butch Harris
- Richard Dean Anderson: mayor Killian Darkwater
- Clancy Brown: Rhombus
- Keith David: Decker
- Tony Shalhoub: Aradesh
- David Warner: Morpheus
- Frank Welker : Maxson
- Creates Summer: Tandi
The series
Fallout will give rise to a continuation, Fallout 2 , (also developed by Black Isle and published by Interplay in 1998) which is located 80 years after the history of the first shutter. The adventure is even vaster there and the interface is improved there. The closing of the studio Black Isle and the financial problems of the Interplay editor made fear the disappearance of the project of hypothetical a Fallout 3 - desired by all the fans. Nevertheless, the resumption of the license was announced by the studio Bethesda Softworks (creative of the series The Elder Scrolls ). Fallout 3 is thus under development at present. A project of MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Range - Roleplay on line massively multijouor) was also evoked, but the rights of this project remain the property of Interplay. Also let us quote the variation of the Fallout frankness for other types of plays:
- Fallout Tactics , tactical strategy game for PC - 2001
- Fallout: Brotherhood off Steel , play of action for PS2 and Xbox. - 2004
To note: Bethesda Softworks envisaged to use for Fallout 3 the graphic engine of the last Elder Scrolls. It will thus not be placed in the line of its predecessor (isometric interface 3D, included in Fallout Tactics).
