The degree Fahrenheit (°F or ℉, character Unicode U+2109) is a Measuring unit of the Température, which owes its name with the German Physicien Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit, which proposed it in 1724. In the scale of temperature of Fahrenheit, the point of Solidification of the Eau is of 32 degrees, and its point of boiling of 212 degrees. One from of deduced that a difference in a degree Fahrenheit is equivalent to a difference of 5/9 of Kelvin or from Degree Celsius.
Fahrenheit decided to fix the zero of his scale as being the lowest temperature which it measured during the hard winter of 1708 to 1709 in his birthplace of Danzig. Later, in laboratory, it reached this temperature during the solidification of a mixture of an equal volume of water and ammonium chloride. It fixed the value at 96 degrees (96 being worth 12 X 8) as the temperature of blood (it used a horse for its first calibrations). First of all, its scale had only 12 divisions, but later, it subdivided each division in 8 equal degrees, from where the value of 96 degrees for the top of its scale. It observed whereas water freezes with 32 degrees and end with 212 degrees. There are thus 180 degrees between the congelation and the boiling of water.
Its measurements were not completely exact, because in its original scale the points of solidification and boiling would have been slightly different from 32°F and 212°F. Some time after its death, this error was discovered and it was decided of recalibrer the scale by taking 32°F and 212°F like points of solidification and boiling of pure water. It resulted from it that the temperature of a healthy human body is of 98,6°F rather than 96°F.
A legend claims that the point 0°F is the coldest temperature recorded in England and 100°F the hottest temperature (slightly exceeded during the heat wave of 2003).
The scale of Fahrenheit was largely used in Europe until its replacement by the scale of Celsius. It is always used nowadays with the the United States and in certain anglophone countries.
To find itself there, it is enough to take the temperature of the day from which one withdraws 32 then to divide the result by 9/5 (1,8).
Example: for 50°F, one obtains: 50 − 32 = 18, then 18/1,8 = 10, therefore 50°F = 10°C.
