Fahd Ben Abdel Aziz Al-Saoud

The king Fahd Ben Abdel Aziz Al Saoud (فهدبنعبدالعزيزآلسعود), born with Riyadh around 1921 or 1923 according to the sources and dead the 2005 in Riyadh, was king and Prime Minister for the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and chief of the house of Saoud of 1982 to his death. He was one of 45 wire of the king Abdel Aziz Ibn Saoud, founder of the dynasty and ESA Ben Ahmed Soudeiri. Fahd was victim of a low register brain attack in 1995 which prevented it from exerting its official functions. His/her half-brother, the prince Abdallah, was since then the Régent in fact of the kingdom and succeeded to him its death.

Youth

At the time of his birth, his/her father consolidated the preeminence of the clan of Saoud on the Arabic Péninsule. It is at the 9 years age, in 1932, which he saw his father founding officially the Saudi Arabia by signing the Traité of Djeddah.

Prince Fahd made his schooling with the École of the Princes in Riyadh, a school created by his father for the education of the royal family. Then it went to the Institute of Religious Studies of Mecque where it studied the Islam Salafiste.

In 1945, Fahd made its first voyage of state (with New York) to abroad attend the opening of the plenary session of the UNO, for which it accompanied his brother Fayçal who was then Foreign Minister.

In 1953, 30 years old, Fahd was promoted Minister for education by his father. This same year, it made its first official visit to represent the house of Saoud to the crowning of the queen Elizabeth II. In 1959, it led the Saoudi delegation of the Arab Ligue, thus showing its high destiny in the businesses of the kingdom. In 1962, Fahd accepted the key position of Minister of Interior Department, then of second Deputy Prime Minister five years later.

Reign

The March 25th 1975, king Faycal was assassinated by his nephew. Fahd, becomes then the crown prince to the king Khaled and first Deputy Prime Minister (de facto Prime Minister). When king Khaled died the June 13rd 1982, Fahd reached the throne.

As a king, Fahd controlled the first world reserves of Pétrole with an enormous personal fortune, two yachts, a private Boeing 747, etc Its residence with Marbella is a certified copy of the White House.

In 1986, king Fahd had proclaimed Gardien of both holy Mosquée S , Mecque and Médine, two of the three holy places of the Islam being on the Saoudi territory. It also named the prince Abdallah first Deputy Prime Minister, and during the absences of the king which could last several months, it ensured the essence of the capacity.

When his/her oldest son Fayçal, member of the International Olympic committee, died in 1999, the king was in Spain and did not make the voyage return for its burial.

At the time of the Guerre of the Gulf, it allowed the installation of permanent bases of the American Armée, which was worth to him some critical in its country and even of the rather important demonstrations in 1993.

King Fahd was victim of a cerebral emboli the November 29th 1995, which forced it to delegate most of the control of the businesses to prince Abdallah, however receiving some visitors sorted on the shutter. It ordered a severe repression against the islamist close relations of Al-Qaida.

The May 27th 2005 the Saoudi government announced its hospitalization, other sources saying it in a serious condition. Official sources informed the agency Reuters that the monarch, 82 years old, suffered from fever and had water in its lungs , which required a hospitalization. Medical sources said that he suffered from a pulmonary infection , and that an examination with the scanner would be practiced at the time of its hospitalization which was to last one or two days. The king however remained hospitalized until his death on August 1st, 2005.

Funeral

After the death of king Fahd, several countries issued periods of 3 days mourning: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Syria and the Palestinian Authority. The Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates declared one period of mourning 7 days and put their flags in Bern. The Jordan even issued a period of 40 days mourning. The day of August 2nd is issued national day of mourning also in Spain. The general secretary of the Arab League Amr Moussa announced the carryforward of the extraordinary Arab top envisaged initially the August 3rd with Charm el-Cheikh.

The the United States announced that they would send a delegation, but the president George W. Bush should not form part of it. On the other hand, the French president Jacques Chirac announced his presence just as the Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf, the king of Jordan Abdallah II and the chief of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas.
