Fad Gadget is a British group thepunk one and of New wave created in 1979 in London by Frank Tovey (September 8th 1956 - April 3rd 2002).
The first album of the group, left in 1980 on the very young label Transfers Records, is characterized musicalement by a very synthetic sound. The low setting ahead and the sepulchral voice of Frank Tovey bathe in a dark, violent and despaired environment, from where nevertheless a direction of humor survives very noir.
Boy timid and reserved for the city, on scene Frank Tovey breaks out: for example, it is covered with foam before shaving its pubic hairs. In London, in 1980, it opens the scalp by giving blows of head on an electronic battery and spreads its blood everywhere. In Amsterdam, in 1983, it tears the ligaments of the two legs on scene, finishing its concert assis.
Individual the Collapsing new people extracts from their last album Gag left in 1984 will know an enormous success. In 1984, is 4 albums later, the members of the group separate. Frank Tovey starts then a career in solo.
In 2001, the group is reformed (with the assistance of the members of the Austrian group Temple-X) and makes the first part of Depeche Mode, in tournée.
Suffering from problems of heart since its childhood, Frank Tovey dies of an heart attack in 2002, at the 45 years age.
