Factor (trade)

A factor (or a factrice ) is a Employé of a undertaken postal which treats and distributes the Courrier to the private individuals or the Entreprise S.

France

In France, the factor also distributes the registered letters and carries out the reforwarding of the mail of the people having paid La Poste to do it suivre.
En rural medium or semi-urban it distributes sometimes the Colis on rounds often carried out in Automobile.

There exists with La Poste (France) several types of rounds (sometimes mixed according to the rural medium, or urban), but the Employé S which carry out them are always called factors.

  • the turned letters is most common. The factor which carries out it sorts the Courrier, classifies it, treats the mail to be reforwarded, then carries out its round of distribution during which it also delivers the registered letters.
Cette turned is done, most of the time, with foot, Bicyclette (urban medium), in Cyclomoteur or Automobile (rural medium or semi-urban).

  • the turned parcel . It is about a round dedicated to the distributon of Colis in an urban medium or semi-urban, and which is always carried out in Automobile. The factors carrying out this round also carry the deposit-relay factor-letters (see the following chapter, standard Journée of the factor ).
En rural medium, this round meets less, the parcels being distributed with the Courrier.

  • the turned undertaken . Primarily urban, this round is dedicated to the delivery of the mail to the Entreprise S. It is carried out in Automobile and often merges with the turned parcel .

Standard day of the factor in France, on round-letters

Sorting in team
The factor begins its work between 6:00 and 7:00 from the morning, according to the Distribution centers. With the other factors of the center it starts by sorting by district-letters (by round of factor) the part of the Courrier and the parvenu press simply sorted by city. It is about the tri general (TG).
At the time of this sorting is also put aside the P.0. boxes (BP) and the Cedex (mail bound for the Entreprise S) which, badly addressed or badly upstream acicular, arrived mixed with the mail " classique". The Cedex and P.0. boxes are indeed sorted separately, for handing-over or early distribution.

Sorting of the round
Once the tri finished general, or at a definite hour (according to the specific organization to each Distribution center), each factor recovers the mail of his district and sorts it on a rack which is clean for him.
De traditional way the rack counts 40 boxes and each one of them corresponds to a portion of the round. It can be a question of small a street, of some numbers of a way (street, Avenue…) or of only one large point of handing-over (real, association…). Thus in the second time, after having sorted all the Mail bound for its district-letters, the factor takes again the majority of the boxes one after the other, to classify it in a final way in the order of its round.
Mais a new generation of racks, disputed by several trade-union organizations, is gradually installation: the modular hybrid rack (CHM), which has a separation by point of handing-over, and thus allows a direct sorting without resumption of each box.

Reforwardings and registered letters
Once any sound Mail classified, the factor treats the mail to be reforwarded (which it prélablement put on side, at the time of the sorting) by slipping it into envelopes of reforwarding or by sticking a label of reforwarding to the back of the letter and a label of red color masking the old address with the recto.
Enfin, it deals with the registered letters bound for its district (which were treated with share by another Employé on their arrival in the center).
Il is then ready to leave in round.

Round of distribution
The time of departure in round varies according to the quantity of work and the degree of experiment of the factor. It is generally located between 8:30 and 10:30.
Le factor distributes all the mail which it classified in the direction of the round, makes sign the registered letters with the recipients, and possibly distributes the Colis (case of rural rounds ). The round lasts on average 3 hours.
the factor with foot or Bicycle not being able to carry the totality of the mail in only once, it constitutes at the time of the sorting, the " deposits-relais" , of the bundles of Mail put out of bag and deposited by the factors in Automobile in " trunks-relais" laid out on the public highway. These metal trunks are traditionally of brown color and generally located on the Trottoir S. the factor thus can, in precise points of its round, to recover the Courrier to be distributed.

Return to the center
The factor returns the registered letters which it could not distribute (and which will then be put in authority in an office of Poste), treats the mail to turn over to the shipper (destinaire not living with the address indicated, name not registered on the letter box…).
La day of the factor finishes officially between 12:30 and 14:00 (according to the specific organizations to each Distribution center), but is actually dependant on the quantity of work and can thus finish before or after the hour envisaged.
