Fachhochschule

A Fachhochschule (German word , plural: Fachhochschulen , abr. FH) is an establishment of higher education in German-speaking countries.

The concept of the Fachhochschule was invented in Germany in the years 1960. It is centered on the applications and the opening towards the companies that the Université S. There exists a very broad spectrum of the Fachhochschulen in the scientific disciplines, techniques, artistic, social and of management. A particular case are the Fachhochschulen of public administration and the Fachhochschulen by correspondence ( Fernfachhochschulen ). On the whole, there exist 160 Fachhochschulen today public or recognized by the State in Germany, and others in Suisse, Austria and with the Liechtenstein.

The Fachhochschulen do not have the right to decree Doctorat S or Habilitation S.

Their statute being different from that of the universities, they do not have the right to bear the name of Universität , at least to Germany, but they tend to be called University off Applied Sciences in English or Université of Sciences Applied French .
