Facetted classification
A facetted classification (in English: faceted classification ) is a Classification analytico-synthetic, pragmatic, whose criteria of classification are not homogeneous.
It is a classification worked out by a Mathématicien and Hindu Bibliothécaire Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan to solve the problem arising from Jorge Luis Borges: “How to arrange the books in a library when it is known that there are the large ones and the small ones, books of history and novels, authors who wrote both and of the collections connected which deal with all and which one must add to it the files corresponding to the various subjects? ”
It is a classification of this kind which was adopted by Yahoo!.
