With the El Salvador, the FLMN ( Frente Farabundo Marti de Liberacion Nacional - Face Farabundo Marti de Libération National) is in the beginning (1980) a movement of Guérilla resulting from the unification of 5 revolutionary forces under the aegis cuban. These 5 components are:

  • the FPL (Force popular of release), created in 1970,
  • the ERP (Armed revolutionary with the people), created in 1972 by Joaquín Villalobos and privileging the armed struggle compared to political work,
  • the FARN (Armed forces of the Resistance National), created in 1975 by dissidents of the ERP, privileging the policy,
  • the PRTC (Left revolutionary the workers center-American), created in 1976 and finally
  • the FAL (Armed forces of release), formed in 1980, armed wing of the GCV (Salvadorian Communist party).

With its apogee, the FLMN had to count to 6.000 combatants.

The FLMN was transformed into a political party in 1992, after the re-establishment of peace and the democracy. It became the first political clout of the country, in spite of dissensions in its center, between orthodoxe (revolutionary Socialists), renovating (social democrats) and tercerists, in favor of the unit of the party. He is member of COPPPAL.

Origin of the name

Augusto Farabundo Marti was the chief of the Salvadorian Communist party, deceased during successive repressions to the country rising of 1932, which had made between 15 thousand and 20 thousand dead.
