Fabrice Santoro , born the December 9th 1972 with Tahiti, is a player of Tennis French professional.
Good player of simple, his talent expresses himself fully in double (called the O, the Magician! by Pete Sampras after a defeat in three sets, because of its touch of ball). Associated with Michael Llodra, it gained twice the Open of Australia as well as the Masters in 2005. It belonged to the team of France of Coupe Davis.
Another nickname, Battling fab (Fab the leaf) comes to him from its combativeness. Very enduring, Santoro pulverized the record of the longest match of the history of professional tennis. The May 25th 2004, on Roland Garros, it was binding vis-a-vis Arnaud Clément after 6 hours and 35 minutes of play (6-4, 6-3, 6-7, 3-6, 16-14). Fabrice Santoro equalizes in August 2007, at the time of the US Open, the record of the number of participations into simple in the tournaments of the large slam with 61 participations, to date, record which it Co-holds with Andre Agassi (it is extremely probable which it beats this record, at the time of the Open of Australia 2008).
Santoro has blow right with two hands, which gives him an additional precision in the absence of power (his/her father wants to be some not to have given besides him a lighter racket when it began), particularly in double. Considered very difficult to play, Santoro beat, apart from very rare exceptions, all the largest players of its time, and enormously gave evil to the others. In January 2006 with Open of Australia, it carries out a performance: ladykiller of the former winner of Roland-Garros, Argentinian the Gastón Gaudio, Santoro eliminates with the 4th turn the Spaniard David Ferrer in three sets 6-4, 7-5, 7-5. It thus reaches the quarterfinals, its best result in large slam, stage where it loses vis-a-vis Argentinian the David Nalbandian.
Thereafter, Santoro lived the epilog of an adventure animated with the Coupe Davis, a last clash between Fabrice Santoro and Guy Forget was to close the doors of the selection definitively to him.
Marat Safin has one day declared: “No matter who can beat Fabrice Santoro. No matter who, except me. ”
