Faboideae

Of the Faboideae is one of the three subfamilies of Fabaceae (or Leguminosae ). Another name is Papilionoideae but it can be used only when the family names Leguminosae . The name Faboideae can be used indifferently that the family is named Fabaceae or Leguminosae .

This subfamily does not exist in traditional Classification (1981), which raises this group at the level of the family of the Fabaceae (strictly speaking) or Papilionaceae .

This subfamily has a cosmopolitan distribution and its species are adapted to a very large variety of environments. The Faboideae can be Arbre S, Arbuste S or Herbe S. They are often provided with Nodosité S racinaires. Their Fleur S is of form very homogeneous, according to the traditional type of the papilionacée flower of the Garden pea.

Note: the standard kind Faba is a Synonyme with Vicia , and it is under this name that it is included in the list of the kinds below.
