Fabien Degryse

Born in 1960 with Brussels, Fabien Degryse studies the Guitare and the Jazz in famous Berklee School off Music with Boston, the U.S.A. between 1980 and 1982.

He plays with all the great names of the jazz in Belgium, and in particular with Philip Catherine and Toots Thielemans. He formed part amongst other things of the folk project of Steve Houben, Panta Rhei, between 1993 and 1997 (three CD' S recorded with them) and plays in the trio the Heart of the Poets since 1994 (four CD' S recorded with them). He also plays in the septet of the double bass player Jean-Louis Rassinfosse (CD left in 2001: Crossworlds) and on last CD of the pianist Olivier Colette (Of the Paddle in the Twilight)

He played of many times in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America, with Panta Rhei and the Heart of the Poets.

He recorded four discs under his name. Its second disc, “Medor Sadness”, receives several distinctions, while the third, “Homage to Rene Thomas” finds first in the classification of the best discs jazz of the year 1997 according to the newspaper the Evening. He even is elected better Belgian acoustic guitarist of the year in 1998. Lastly, he is the first musician jazz in Belgium to leave “virtual CD” available by remote loading on the Internet: “Fabien Degryse Jazz”, since January 2001 on www.vitaminic.fr, and since June 2001 in the form of traditional CD.

Side composition, it gains in 1998 the contest of composition of topics of jazz of the Belgian Artistic Promotion of Sabam with its piece “Minorosity”. One of the pieces of the disc Fabien Degryse Jazz (on sale on Itunes Blind), “Jam Traffic”, receives in December 2001 in France the First Price decreed by Adami in the jazz category of the contest " Price Music in ligne".

Side teaching, it gives the courses of guitar jazz and overall to Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel since years, like in several academies of the French Community of Belgium, and at the time of various training courses, in Belgium (International Academy of Summer with Libramont, Jazz with the Green) and abroad (France, Bénin, Burkina Faso, Democratic republic of Congo, Tunisia, Algérie, Taiwan).

It leaves in 1999 a method of improvisation jazz for the guitar to the Editions Combre (Paris).
