FRA Filippo Lippi , known as FRA Filippo del Carmine is an Italian painter born with Florence in 1406 and died in Spolète the October 9th 1469.

Filippo Lippi is placed very young person at the convent of the Carmelite friars of Florence where he pronounces his wishes in 1421 at the 15 years age. It paints its first works in this convent.

Ten years later it leaves the monastery and carries out a life well little monacale so much so that it is private ecclesiastical benefit which it perceived. He knows even the prison in 1452 and tortures it by the estrapade (torment which consisted in dislocating the members while dropping condemned top from an bracket) after different opponent with the one from its fellow-members, about a restoration which he would not have carried out but for which he had been remunerated (according to the plaintiff). In 1456 it is named chaplain of the convent of Holy-Marguerite to Prato. It allured a nun there, Lucrezia Buti, which it removes shortly after to have discovered that she was pregnant of him. In 1457 is born thus that which will become later painter under the name of Filippino Lippi. Again Lippi knows problems with the justice florentine which hopes well to condemn it to have corrupted a nun. To save it death Cosme de Médicis, its principal patron and friend leaves to the Vatican to require of the pope Pie II, lately elected and friendly of Cosme, of the gracier. This last is carried out by raising FRA (Brother) Filippo and Lucrezia of their wishes. Lippi thus marries Lucrezia a few weeks later, we are then in 1458, Lippi is 52 years old, Lucrezia is not 20 years old. Two years later, in 1460, small Alessandra is born from their union.

FRA Filippo Lippi was initially influenced by Lorenzo Monaco and especially Masaccio which it could see working with the convent of the Carmelite friars of Florence, indeed it went regularly to the Chapelle Brancacci where Masaccio worked with Masolino da Panicale. Later it meets FRA Angelico which exerted, in its turn, an influence on its Article FRA Filippo Lippi is known for its many representations of the Virgin. Those are famous for the elegance of the silhouettes and the smoothness of the features of the face.

In 1438 it passes to the service Médicis (it works especially for Cosme de Medicis but also for its son Pierre Ier de Médicis (known as " the goûteux") who help it to make forget its too judged existence dissolue by the religious authorities.

He was the Master of Botticelli which enters its workshop in 1465; itself trained the son of Filippo, the Filippino young person.

Recently, the French writer Sophie Chauveau published a novel entitled the Passion Lippi which tells the fabulous route of the Italian painter.
