FM-200 (also known under names HFC-227ea, FE-227, RT-227) is an inhibiting gas of second generation intended to prevent the reaction of combustion, known under the chemical name heptafluoropropane.

Contrary to its predecessors (Halon 1301), it is less harmful for the man, but has one lifespan in the considerable atmosphere (from 31 to 42 years) although much lower than much of its competitors. In the same family, the Novec does not have this defect.

The FM-200 is interdict in certain European countries, like Switzerland.

Use

The FM200 is used to fight against the fire in many fields:
  • Places where space is limited too much to accommodate systems with inert gases,
  • data-processing Clean rooms,
  • Musées,
  • Lieux where water must be avoided.
