FIAT Punto

FIAT Punto is a model town Automobile of the manufacturer Italy N FIAT manufactured starting from 1993 bound for the Consommateur S European.

It was also introduced in Australia in 2006.

In 1995, it is elected European Voiture of the year.

FIAT Punto I (1993-1999)

Presented to the Auto show of Frankfurt, in September 1993, it entered directly the reserved circle of the cars which mark their time thanks to a striking down business success. All the most optimistic hopes of the commercial department of FIAT Car were exceeded. Drawn per G. Giuggiaro, the FIAT Punto had the heavy task to replace another mythical car, FIAT Uno, queen of the classification of the cars most sold in Europe during 5 years and its 6.000.000 of specimens manufactured.

The reception of the critic specialized was unanimously favorable and it accepted the price of the Car of the Year in 1995.

Available in 31 different versions and 14 colors, it presented in body 3 and 5 doors, sporting WP, 3 levels of completion, 4 motorizations gasoline and 2 diesel, mechanical gear boxes with 5 and 6 reports/ratios or automatic.

For the first time a car of small gauge was as well finished as a large truck and could receive equipment worthy of cars of definitely higher range like: direction with variable assistance, electric panes tinted, Rev counter, water thermometer, automatic closing of the doors, car radio, ABS, Airbag S and air conditioning of series.

The platform of the FIAT Punto had received an special attention on behalf of the originators because it was to be able to be adapted, without large modifications, for other cars and, so had an exceptional torsionnelle stiffness. No car before Punto had never been designed to receive motorizations such varied and being able to go from 50 to 140 ch. Cette base was so reliable that it was used for FIAT Barchetta spyder.

The success of the FIAT Punto was such as its production rates exceeded the 3500 specimens per day.

  • Punto WP - 1372 cm ³ Turbo, MPI, 8v, 136 ch (derivative of the FIAT Turbo Uno of 114 ch)
  • Punto D - 1697 cm ³ diesel aspired, 57 ch
  • Punto TD - 1697 cm ³ turbo-diesel without intercooler, 71 ch

Versions of Punto year-model 1997:

In 1997 the FIAT Punto profited from light a restyling concerning especially the interior completion. Mechanics was modified with the appearance of engines with 16 valves of the FIRE 1242 cm ³, which remains still today in 2006, one of better engines of this cubic capacity, thanks to a very low consumption, the respect of the current standards EURO 4, a power and an output ever equalized.

The version WP passed from 133 to 130 ch because of the Euro2 standards, while the version D aspired was abandoned. Version TD was then declined with 2 levels of power.

FIAT Punto II (1999-2005)

In September 1999, at the time of the centenary of FIAT, Punto II series was presented. It was the first car in the world in its category to receive 4 stars with the crash landing-test EuroNCAP.

Business success continued even if volumes of sale of the 1st series will not be equalized in particular because of an increased number of competitors. The rate of manufacture of the 1st series exceeded the 3.500 specimens per day.

In 2003, the body is slightly modified, the front face germanise with fires of greater dimension and an important grill, the interior receives a more luxurious completion. The FIAT Punto II was manufactured in Italy at a rate of 2.800 specimens per day.

As from September 2005, it was exported in ex Yugoslavia under the label Zastava Z10 by FIAT. It is now assembled there since July 16th, 2007, with components coming from Italy, in the factory Zastava of Kragujevac, old subsidiary company of FIAT since the years 1955 at the rate of 100 units per day.

Maintained with the catalog in its initial versions gasoline and diesel, 3 and 5 doors it is still produced at the rate of 600 specimens per day in the factory of Mirafiori, in Turin.

FIAT Punto III (2006-xxxx)

In 2006, the FIAT Punto was with its third version, called the Grande Punto. Manufactured at the rate of 2000 specimens per day instead of its elder in the modern ultra factory of Melfi, the most robotized world, it should be manufactured very soon in Brazil (August 2007), in Turkey, India (2008) and China.
