FIAT Powertrain Technologies

FIAT Powertrain Technologies is a new business of the group FIAT S.p.A. created in March 2005 with an aim of gathering in only one entity the whole of the research centres and development of the group FIAT as well as manufacture of advanced engines and of new technologies.

It is aunsi which appear within FPT - FIAT Powertrain Technologies:

This potential represents:

  • 2,5 million engines produced per annum, in a range going from 52 to 1.800 horses of power,
  • 2 million gear boxes.

FPT realized in 2005 a turnover of 5,6 billion €uros, devoted more than 11% of its turnover in R & D, and in the development of the production equipments.

With 19 thousand paid, including 650 engineers of advanced research and 2.500 technicians in charge of the innovation of production, FIAT Powertrain Technologies is first world actors in this field.

Its activity is not only dependant on the group FIAT, who in is his single shareholder, but also like service provider for the other manufacturers on height of more than 20% of its activity. FPT is established in 8 countries and has 16 factory of production and 10 centers of R & D.

In addition to the activities in the automobile engines and of the traditional heavy trucks like the famous engines Common rail JTD 1,9 and 1,3 liters which are true references on the matter, the engines of the Cursor series and Tector for the industrial uses, it is necessary to quote the marine engines and the units AIFO for the fixed installations.

Among the principal innovations of FPT it is necessary to quote:

  • diesel engine SDE (Small Diesel Engine) 1.3 Multijet in its versions 65,70,90 and 105 cv, which obtained the Price Engine off the Year 2005.

In June 2007, FPT signed an agreement with Mercedes Benz to provide him 80.000 specimens per annum engine Multijet FIAT of 3,0 L and 177 cv to equip its light vehicles, in order to respect the standards Euro 4. This engine is available in the Iveco Daily and the high versions of FIAT Ducato.
