FIAT Chery
FIAT Chery is a new business created in joint venture between the groups Italian FIAT S.p.A. and Chinese Chery Automobiles for manufacture, in China, of vehicles of tourism FIAT and Alfa Romeo as from 2009.
A Memorandum was signed on August 7th, 2007 between the two partners. The agreement envisages the constitution of a levelling joint venture whose head office will be in Wuhu, in the province of Anhui, for manufacture and marketing, in China, of private cars of Alfa Romeo marks and FIAT of FIAT Group Automobiles and Chery. The joint venture will have a production capacity of 175.000 cars per annum. The starting of manufacture is awaited at the latest at the beginning of year 2009.
The Memorandum is subjected to the authorizations of the Chinese authorities.
The introduction of Alfa Romeo models in China represents one historic moment, because separately an experiment with the Brésil with F.N.M. between 1960 and 1985 and one test symbolic system in Thailand with the Alfa Romeo 156 in 1990, the models of the Milanese manufacturer were never elsewhere manufactured than in Italy.
The Chinese leaders of Chery Automobiles await also a transfer to know to make for the design and the manufacture of new models which are in conformity with the European security standards and of pollution.
Chery Automobiles is established in Wuhu, in the province of Anhui, and is one of the most important Chinese manufacturers of cars. Its range includes the models Eastar, Tiggo, A5, Cowin, V5 E QQ, been driven by engines Chery CAC and ACTECO. Chery is also one of the principal exporters of cars of the country.
Recently, FIAT Car and Chery had signed an partnership agreement for the manufacture of engines by Chery which would equip the Chinese productions with FIAT.
