FIAT Campagnola

FIAT 1101 Campagnola and FIAT 1107 Nuova Campagnola were only the Véhicule S any ground manufactured by the manufacturer Italy N FIAT; setting with share the Panda 4x4.

The first generation - 1951

Following a contest launched by the Italian State during which the two manufacturers FIAT and Alfa Romeo took part by proposing the FIAT Campagnola which overrode Alfa Romeo Matta, at the time of Will trust LED Levante de Bari in September 1951.

The vehicle, very Spartan as the schedule of conditions required it, was launched in manufacture immediately in the versions AR 51, AR 55, AR 59 and AR 76 (where AR means Autoveicolo da Ricognizione - vehicle of recognition and the number indicates the year of its startup.

During its long career, this vehicle was unceasingly adapted to the new constraints imposed by the services of the Army Italian and profited from all the technological changes of the manufacturer. Manufactured in very many versions, including for specific needs of Civil protection, Firemen, she was proposed with short or long footing, and in version hardtop. Initially intended for the services of the Army Italian, it was also adopted by Carabinieri.

As everywhere where this type of vehicle was built, one can only be struck by the resemblance to famous Jeep of the American Army. Resemblance due to the satisfaction of the same criteria of operation only.

The FIAT Campagnola was equipped, in its first version of an engine gasoline FIAT 105, of 1901 Cm3 developing 53 cv/39 kw and, from 1953 of a diesel engine of only 29 kw. with 4600 tours/mn. In 1955 appeared two engines gasoline of 45 and 46 kw and a diesel of 40 cv/36,5 kw.

In 1973 a new engine gasoline of 59 kw was proposed.

The second generation

In 1974 the second generation FIAT Nuova Campagnola AR76, entirely new appeared by its design. Civil version in the beginning, military version AR76A, was revealed in 1976.

In 1979 FIAT proposes Nuova Campagnola Diesel 2500, with an engine of 53 kw, the same one which equipped the cars FIAT 131 and FIAT 132.

All the versions were naturally 4x4 with four permanent driving wheels, with independent suspensions ensured by torsion bars.

The FIAT Campagnola in the world

Campagnola first series was manufactured with 39.076 specimens in Italy only on ordering of the Army and of the associated public services, she was seen out of normal equipment of other States, Spain, certain countries of the East and in Africa. In addition, it was useful for Papamobile for Jean-Paul II.

She was also manufactured in Yugoslavia by Zastava, during the same period, but no figure of production was communicated. A big number of these vehicles were exported in India.

The first series was replaced in 1976 by the second series 1007, called FIAT Nuova Campagnola and which was also marketed in civil version.
