FIAT 509

FIAT 509 is a car manufactured by the Italian manufacturer FIAT between 1925 and 1929.

History

To the autumn 1925 FIAT presents a new car which will enter the automobile history: the FIAT 509. It was first car FIAT of reduced cubic capacity, for the time, with being manufactured in great series in the very new factory of Lingotto. The car, been driven by an engine with only 990 cm and a box at three speeds, comprises two doors and is dimensions abnormally reduced compared to its competitors. It accommodates however four adults in such a roomy space. The new car can be bought with credit thanks to SAVA, the organization of credit created by FIAT Finances. In less than one year, the FIAT 509 succeeds in the exploit to become the car most diffused in the country.

The FIAT 509A

In 1926 FIAT presents the version 509A. Among the improvements it is necessary to announce a new system of lubrication and new a Carburateur and a body to 4 doors. The alternatives of body available were: truck, torpedo, convertible, cut and spider; the S (Sporting), Taxi and the Commercial one.

It was replaced by FIAT 508 Balilla after having been manufactured with 92  514 specimens, a quasi world record for the time.
