FIAT 500
FIAT 500 (NR with R) is a model of urban Automobile manufactured by the Italian manufacturer FIAT, in Italy between 1957 and 1975.
The FIAT 500, called “pot of Yoghourt” in French, has four places. It bears the same name, " FIAT 500" , that a model former sold of 1936 to 1955, which was more known under its nickname Topolino - small mouse (Mickey Mouse) and which was also declined under the mark Simca, baptized Simca 5, in France, and by Steyr in Austria.
The very first series of FIAT 500, presented to Turin on July 4th, 1957, was been driven by an engine vertical twin-cylinder cooled by air of 479 cm ³ delivering 13 ch and authorizing a maximum speed of 85 km/h. Very quickly FIAT realized that the power was insufficient and presented in October 1957, at the time of the Living room of Turin, a version carried with 15 ch. L' following year, a Sport version been driven by an engine increased to 499,5 cm ³ and developing 17 ch were presented; the initial version disappeared.
During one decade, with the series NR, the engine does not undergo any modification of cubic capacity.
The model R, built as from 1972, was equipped with the engine of that which was to replace it, the 126, one 594 cm ³ delivering 22 ch and authorizing a maximum speed of 100 km/h.
The FIAT 500 is equipped with a roof sliding in fabric, and is 297 cm long, and 132 cm in height and broad. The FIAT 500 truck was produced in Italy with 3.392.941 specimens to which the 327.000 specimens of the FIAT 500 Giardiniera (Flower stand) are added, a model with a loading postpones vaster proposed as from 1960.
The suspension is independent on each wheel. A transverse blade connects the two suspensions to the front one. The Frein S are with drum and hydraulically-operated.
The FIAT 500 was used as a basis for innumerable derived signed Abarth, Bertone, Pininfarina, Zagato, Allemano, Autobianchi, Frua, Ghia, Giannini, Steyr-Puch and tens of others.
The FIAT 500 built out of Italy
Although the FIAT 500, in the collective spirit, represents Italy of years 50-60, this micro car was also manufactured in small series in two other countries rather accustomed to the big-engined cars. That is explained by the important customs duties into force at the time. Today, these markets would be fed by export.

Germany: FIAT Neckar manufactured between 1959 and 1962 more than 6.000 specimens of a derivative of the FIAT 500 Giardiniera, the Autobianchi Panoramica.
- Austria: Steyr-Puch used licenses of manufacture FIAT since 1907 and manufactured between the end of 1957 and 1972 exactly 57.834 specimens of the FIAT 500 truck with a specific Steyr engine, derived from engine FIAT.
The aggregate output of model FIAT 500 reached the 3.800.000 specimens without counting the derived models.
For the 50 years of the FIAT 500, on July 4th, 2007 with Turin, a new version of the car is presented, under the same name of news FIAT 500.
